Inspiration: Catering on Wheels

Exhale...I told you we'd be back with three ideas of how you can incorporate throwback vehicles and catering on wheels into your special day, and here we are. Delivering as promised. Denver is full of opportunity, and here are tres of them to inspire you.

Steuben's : Steuben's Food Truck

Okay, you may be having a casual park wedding, or a high-end downtown wedding, but let's face it, at the end of the day, everyone likes burgers... and Steuben's for that matter. In June, Steuben's gassed up it's first ever food truck and let it loose on Denver. From Veggie Burgers to Green Chili Cheeseburgers, the Steuben's Food Truck looks good, smells, good and iiiis good.

Still in it's budding youth, we are sure to expect so many more amazing things from this truck. Stay tuned...

Denver Biscuit Company : Biscuit Bus

"Real Southern, Real Good" is the Denver Biscuit Company's motto. A wonderful fit for a rustic wedding's cocktail hour, the Biscuit Bus serves gourmet biscuit sandwiches on fresh-baked buttermilk biscuits that are made from scratch every day. And, speaking of made from scratch...well... everything is made from scratch! From the apple butter to the sausage. No joke!

Let's talk about the Ellsworth - buttermilk fried chicken with honey, stone-ground mustard, and homemade pickles - or the Jack Lee - bacon with grape jelly. These unique little sandwiches are perfect to satisfy southern tongues and munchie madness.

Cake Crumbs Bakery : The Denver Cupcake Truck

In April 2010, the Cake Crumbs Bakery rolled out their Cupcake Truck. "I've just always had a vision of cupcakes being vended from an old time delivery truck," said Denon Moore, owner of Cake Crumbs when interviewed by Westword. Piloted by her husband, Sean, the Cupcake Truck cruises around Denver, gracing streets with robins egg blue.

The cupcakes themselves, made from scratch, include flavors such as Mile-Hi Mocha (mocha cake, frosted with espresso butter cream, dipped into bits of heath bar), the Denver Snowball (almond cake, chocolate frosting, and dipped into coconut), and the Rockin' Red Velvet (red velvet cake, cream cheese frosting, dipped in sugar and silver dragees).

And, now I'm full. Time to roll me outta here!

Also, check out Comida for a pretty pink Boulder flair on roooolling food!

A Sweet New Gal in Town - Lemon Sprinkle Events

As Willy Wonka himself would probably tell you, variety is the spice of life. There's an endless world of candies, chocolates, and sweets just waiting in dainty little packages to be devoured by even the smallest sweet tooth.

When Jaclyn Webb began Lemon Sprinkle Events she set out to create a world of treats that transform wedding desserts from ordinary to extraordinary. Heavily inspired by Amy Atlas, Webb designs beautiful and unique dessert tables that draw from local trends and can fit a variety of budgets, party sizes, and dietary requirements.

Webb recently weighed in with Classic Creations to talk about her tantalizing new trade.

I have been a sugar lover for as long as I can remember.  I used to sneak candy before dinner and always wished I could order dessert first at a restaurant. I fell in love with dessert tables after seeing the amazing work of Amy Atlas. I also have some experience with graphic design and interiors, and I love all things beautiful. Planning my own wedding and dessert bar inspired me to make a business out of what I love.

At Lemon Sprinkle Events, we have a passion for sweets, a love of design and an eye for detail.  We image, design and create custom dessert tables for events.  We love to work one-on-one with our clients to develop a sweets table that will awe their guests.  We have many great ideas for incorporating all types of candies, cookies, cakes and brownies.  We can even do ice cream bars, pie or cheesecake tables... anything you can imagine!

There are so many beautiful wedding and party venues in Colorado... but no one just like us to add a unique sweet touch to a special day. Denver needs Lemon Sprinkle Events to bring these beautiful dessert tables to Colorado!

How fun are these dessert tables?! Love, love, love. Such a creative way to spice up a traditional wedding cake dessert, or just add a fun treat to your wedding reception.

We did ask the Mistress of Sugar what her perfect dessert table would include, but beware...reading on may cause some extreme salvation! Right now, my perfect table would start with a vintage refinished desk... topped with beautiful glass vessels overflowing with french macrons, gourmet chocolate truffles, handmade square-cut marshmallows, and nostalgic hard candy. The table would also feature mini chocolate shakes, petite cupcakes and fruit tarts.  The candy and sweets would be framed by oversize vases filled with peonies and ranunculus, and hanging above the table would be mini paper lanterns.

Wow! We can't wait to see what the future holds for Lemon Sprinkle Events, but there's no doubt it's going to be delicious!

Tipsy Thursday- Caterer Tasting Etiquette

Tipsy Thursday Wedding Etiquette
Tasting Tips

This is the favorite part for many people...or at least the groom....the tasting with the caterer and bakeries. I've heard stories of brides who've done tastings with 7 caterers, ladies this is just not necessary...and makes those dress fittings more challenging!

So here's some etiquette that goes along with tastings.
  1. Get quotes from your caterers, compare and NARROW it down! Believe me the caterers understand if you are comparing them with one or two others, but not 8! It costs them a lot of money to do these and in the end yes they will pass it on to you one way or another!

  2. Be up front about the amount you have to spend. They can give you great suggestions.

  3. Have your menu narrowed down to what you think you really will have at your wedding so that you only need one tasting with the caterer. If you need to completely change an item see if it's possible for them to make just that item and you can swing in to pick it up at another time. Only do this if you plan on booking with this company.

  4. This is the most important one...ASK how many people you are allowed to bring, and only bring that number.

  5. Tell them any dislikes prior to the tasting...if you really hate onions ask them to leave them off...also let them know of any food allergies for people attending the tasting.
  6. At the tasting- be clear and specific on what you like and don't like...you are not hurting their feelings (just do it tactfully). Too much salt let them know, they can change sauces, leave off items you dislike etc. That's what tastings are for....so you can modify the menu.
  7. Be sure to ask to see pictures of their work, ask about staff attire, staff ratios etc
Obviously with a great wedding planner they will take care of all this for you!
