Great things from the Special Event- Color Trend!

I had a great time in New Orleans at The Special Event Conference and I wanted to do a few posts on some of the great things I saw while I was there.

Before I get in to it, I have to say that it was a great week. We met so many fabulous people. Our first night out we hit Jacques-imos and met one of the Kerns who basically run Mardi Gras, and who own Mardi Gras World! Talk about an amazing place for a wedding! They'll even take you down to Bourbon street later on an actual Mardi Gras Float! Now that's an after party!
That's me and my wedding planner friend Aimee (and friend Andrew) from True Wedding Events (D.C. area) incognito at Mardi Gras World Party.
Color trend....so you want to know what the hot color is? Per the Pantone Report (which comes out every year and tells the world the color trends) the color of the year is!

Turquoise...it looks great with a variety of wedding colors. Pair it with red (as below, linen from Cloth Connection); it's great with blues for that ocean feel; it adds a pop to neutral tones; and is especially trendsetting with yellows and greens.

Now ladies....keep in mind what I learned from fabulous wedding planner, Sasha Souza. It will take about 1-2 years before you'll really see it in everyone's wedding. It will show up in fashion first and then house products before it hits the wedding world.
So, for those of you who want to be ahead of the trend, jump right in.....the turquoise water is fine!

A lovely Colorado Mountain wedding...too bad we had to move it inside at the last minute. Hate those freak snowstorms!

More HOT Ideas from The Special Event Conference

One of the best sessions from the Special Event 2010 was the Hot Ideas presentation.

It was full of cool new things for the event industry...I already told you about the cake pops! Here are some other ideas I'd love to use in a wedding (if you're up for using any of these in your wedding, I'm your gal, give me a call and let's design a spectacular day!):

Acrylic Candelabras.....I actually tried to buy some, but they are only renting them right now....bummer! These were GORGEOUS with flowers in the middle. So different from anything your guests have seen! You can rent these from http://www.koolpartyrentals.com/ . I also found something similar online that are available for purchase in a variety of colors.
Blossom Crown Pro - A very sweet and easy way to make a centerpiece. It's a bendable, reusable wire grid with beads for floral arranging.

Scent Events - enhance your reception with a fab scent. This product brings in that extra sensory experience for your guests....boost that scent of the rose centerpieces, or maybe chocolate chip cookie as you bring out that late night snack bar! It's a fan that blows whatever scent you choose in to your space, and it's very reasonable!

Champagne Chandelier - This one was pretty amazing....picture a lovely lady...hanging upside down in cirque de soleil style...pouring champagne to your guests! I bet they wouldn't forget that!

Photo of the Week- ISES Tabletop Competition

The Denver Wedding and Event professionals have such a great time when they get together!
Our networking meeting for ISES was a vintage tabletop design competition.
Here's one that was called "Smitten". It had that great shabby chic feel, that is so popular for weddings right now.

Thanks Keri Doolittle Photography....a new photographer in Denver!

Tipsy Thursday - Champagne 101

I love a bit of the bubbly.....I love toasting and the clinking of the crystal, everything about it is festive! Celebrations just don't seem complete with out it.
Most people serve a Champagne or sparkling wine for toasting! FYI, they are the same thing, except that sparkling wine is not made from grapes grown in the Champagne region of France.
There are a variety of Champagnes that have very different tastes and complement different foods.
These are the most common varieties, from the sweetest to the driest:
-Demi-sec
-Dry,
-Extra-Dry
-Brut (the most popular)
Long stemmed flutes are the best for serving champagne it enhances the flow of bubbles, and the glasses should not be chilled in order to maximize your bubbly experience.
Be sure to sample your champagne prior to the big day. I'm sure you can find something to celebrate!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
